Om

A gatefold album cover combining two of Om’s albums into one release— ‘God is Good’ and ‘Advaitic Songs.”

Om is a droning, meditative, heavy metal band whose sound is continuous and all-encompassing; wrapping the listener in sonic shrouds. Their spiritual overtones weave a tapestry of pilgrimages across centuries and religions. The use of minimal elements on the cover create a revelatory experience-like breaking through the veil of heaven-when pulling out the record sleeves. Religious iconography along with blackletter type further merges their spiritual themes and heavy sound.

I listened to a lot of Om… on repeat, constantly. As I did that I looked at the album covers they already have. They use a lot of old Christian art and symbolism so I started thinking in those terms. I looked at Christian mysticism, revelatory experiences, and medieval art for inspiration. I also looked at other album covers and it was the Beatles’ White Album that struck a spark.
